New Chelsea Society is committed to doing its part in fighting this global pandemic. Our primary goal is to keep all our residents as well as staff members safe. We hope those of you reading this can help by following the most up to date regulations found on the BC Government’s website www2.gov.bc.ca and updates within our own non-profit organization by our Pandemic Coordinator, Stefan Baune.
While our Head Office is currently closed to the public, please be aware that all our staff are working remotely and are still available in assisting in responding to any questions or concerns you may have. You can contact us at our Head Office phone number 604- 395-4370. Please continue to use our hotline number for any maintenance needs (604-331-6100). Please be aware that if there is something that does not need urgent attention, the Site Managers may postpone coming into your suite in order to further increase social distancing. If you need to contact your Site Manager please call the hotline. Although Site Managers are working on site, the site offices will be closed to protect our staff and residents.
Mail slots will still be open for drop off.
New Chelsea Society works within the BC Housing non-profit housing sector. BC Housing has been able to update regulations on rental payments in hopes to relieve the stress of residents who may have experienced reduced work hours or have lost their jobs completely.
Please visit the BC Housing website to get accurate and up to date information regarding rental payments.
Keep yourself and your loved ones safe
During these difficult times we would like to remind about the small, but very pro-active steps that you can take to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. These include but are not limited to:
- Washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more
- Using hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available
- Carrying disinfectant wipes and using when necessary
- Avoiding touching your eyes, mouth, ears, or face in general
- Using a face mask (avoid buying the N95 masks since these are running low and should be available for doctors and nurses working in front line)
If you have come in contact with someone who has fallen ill
If you or someone you know came back from abroad:
- Practicing social distancing (6ft apart)
- Staying away from seniors homes and the most vulnerable
- Avoiding going out and being in public places (should only be going out to stock up on food)
- Not having social gatherings (you may be fined)
- Covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
Playgrounds are Closed
In an effort to practice Social Distancing (keeping a safe distance of at least 2 meters (6 feet) apart from other people), we are closing all of our playgrounds until further notice. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
Role and Responsibilities of your Landlord
As a Landlord, New Chelsea Society considers the health, safety and well-being of our Residents and Staff as a paramount responsibility and obligation. We will continue to provide the necessary services within our buildings, and support you living independently. However, there are things New Chelsea SHOULD NOT and CAN NOT DO for you and your family during this health crisis.
Cannot be done by the new chelsea society
- We cannot provide recommendations or services related to your health.
- We cannot provide services related to the supply, acquisition or administra-tion of medication.
- We cannot make any plans for or provide services to arrange for food and nutrition;
- We will continue with essential repairs and maintenance in our buildings. In the health interests of our staff, we will not be able to service your unit if you or someone in your family has flu-like symptoms, has recently travelled outside the country, or if a safe two-meter (2m) distance between you and a staff member cannot be maintained;
- Do not rely on New Chelsea Society to provide you with essential items of daily living (e.g. toiletries, food, etc.). You must plan and prepare ahead.
What you should do to plan and prepare
- Follow the steps to reduce your risk of infection and spread of the virus
- Plan ahead and arrange for food and nutrition. Go shopping, order online (attached sheet) or arrange with family/friends to help you.
- Follow instructions and restrictions given to you or posted throughout your property.
- Stay informed about the Coronavirus pandemic. We recommend following public information for COVID-19 from the Provincial Health Authority and BC Centre for Disease Control through

New Chelsea Society
Meal requests coordinated by BC Housing
BC Housing is working to coordinate food supplies for non-profit housing providers to supply to tenants around the province. The aim is to ensure that tenants have a sustainable supply of food. BC Housing is taking requests from non-profit housing providers through an online form that will be located in the COVID-19 section of our website (https://www.bchousing.org/
COVID-19). These food requests will then be assessed and triaged for distribution.
Although times have been tough we would like to shine some light of optimism by thanking our heroes of the month:
Our Acting Property Portfolio Manager, Ian Patch, and his brother, Chris, who donated personal protective equipment to New Chelsea Society. This was much needed help especially to our front-line workers who provide hands-on services to our senior residents.
Tom, son of Tannis who is a resident at Chelsea Park went out of his way and kindly dropped off additional supplies for our elderly seniors in case they ran out. Thank you Tom for this act of kindness and thoughtfulness.
As well as Derek Davidson, who is our Director of Residents Services as seen on Global News recently as the “unknown bag piper” for going down to our senior properties to play his bag pipes while everyone watched from their balcony’s to spread a little bit of hope and happiness to those isolating.
