New Chelsea Society wins 2023 Fortis BC Efficiency in Action Award
Patrick Buchannon, CEO of New Chelsea Society, receives Lifetime Achievement Award at BCNPHA Conference
At the 2022 annual conference of the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, held November 21st – 23rd, 2022 in Vancouver, New Chelsea Society’s CEO, Pat Buchannon was presented with the prestigious Denise LeBlond Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in affordable housing. Pat has devoted his whole life to the cause of affordable housing. He’s been a sector leader and change-agent for over 43 years.
He spent 18 years with the Department of Student Housing at UBC (11 years as Assistant Director), and for the past 25 years he has been New Chelsea Society’s CEO.
His many achievements have had a positive impact on the lives of countless low-to-moderate income veterans, seniors, families, and persons with disabilities who live in non-profit housing.
Throughout his career, he has developed new affordable housing; forged effective sector partnerships; created innovative housing programs and processes; and devoted countless volunteer hours sitting on boards of directors and government task forces always ensuring that safe, affordable housing remained in the forefront.

Community Housing Task Force
The City of Burnaby is starting several housing initiatives including supportive housing, warming centres and the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Housing to explore strategies for improving access to housing and affordability. New Chelsea Society CEO, Patrick Buchannon participated in this task force.
