Resident Services and Community Development

Ensuring Safe and Secure Housing

The Department of Resident Services and Community Development at New Chelsea Society works to ensure that all residents live in safe and secure housing.

We Achieve This By:

A. Empowering Residents

Providing support to residents in understanding their responsibilities as tenants, and locating and accessing services to help them maintain happy and stable tenancies, self-sufficiency in their homes, and a mutually respectful and collaborative relationship with their neighbours.

B. Empowering Staff

Providing training, education and support to staff and assisting them in interacting with residents in resolving conflicts, concerns, and/or challenging issues.

C. Supporting a Comprehensive Tenant Placement Process

Selecting and welcoming new residents, and working with the staff in the Operations Department to ensure a positive start to each and every tenancy.

D. Overseeing Tenancy Endings

Taking the lead in any Residential Tenancy Hearings, and/or assisting residents to transition to housing more appropriate for their needs when the time comes for them to move on.

E. Fostering Collaborative Partnerships

Creating community partnerships to better meet residents’ needs, to expand services to residents, and to broaden communication between relevant agencies to be able to work collaboratively in assisting in resolving issues.

F. Researching Resident Needs

Conducting ongoing research into specific needs and requirements of the different resident populations in order to improve quality of life and to support successful tenancies.

G. Seeking Funding for Support Services

Conducting ongoing research into specific needs and requirements of the different resident populations in order to improve quality of life and to support successful tenancies.
